Cup 2025

The R6 Pacific Cup 2025 will be held in Murchison, New Zealand on the Buller "Kawatiri" River. 

Our Mission

To promote and stimulate raft racing in New Zealand, Honor and support our current World Champion women’s raft team and NZ teams competing on the World Stage.

Open up an event to all countries to join in on a fun international event. Setting the scene for a possible hosting of a World Cup or Championships in the near future, in hope to gain interest and support from local and National support and sponsorship.

Event Dates

23rd - 27th February 2025

23rd and 24th of Feb Practice days. 

23rd Sprint, H2H and Slalom sections. 24th Down River section. 

25th Sprint and H2H races

26th Slalom races

27th Down River races

Location

Kawatiri Awa (Buller River), South Island, New Zealand. 

Depending on river flows (River is natural flowing - no dams or control) Slalom, sprint and H2H would be held on O’Sulivans Rapids. Down River either on O’Sullivans / Ariki section or Buller Earthquake section or Granity section. All of these sections of river are class 3 to 3+

Entry Fee

There will be an entry fee of $225.00 per team member. This fee will cover Racing costs, basic transport from Murchison Hub to river and return, end of event dinner and award ceremony.

All You Need to Know..

Buller Festival (a local / national river festival runs in the same area on the 28th of Feb, 1st and 2nd of March) So the athletes can join in on this after the finish of the Pacific Cup, if they wish.

 

Entries open to: All countries which are members of the IRF. 

 

There is two categories, Open Men’s and Open Women’s.

 

Countries can enter as many teams as they wish. 

 

Event will offer a range of accommodation to varying costs to the competitors, on top of their entry fee. 

Event will provide a closing ceremony and dinner at the completion of the Down River Race, at a venue in Murchison township, included in their entry fee.

 

Evening entertainment will be provided at different locations on some evenings during the event. 

 

Basic Bus service will be provided to and from river events, however, teams will be suggested to have own transport to get to and from Murchison from NZ arrival points. 

 

Event will run to IRF race rules. Cat C event, run by experienced International Race Director with safety crew run by experienced Race Safety Director and International Head Judge (who will support and train up local (NZ) judges to be used at this event)

There will be a safety team, medical team and judging team in place for the event.

 

Event will be run as an R6 rafting competition. (6 persons per raft)

 

4.3 (14 foot) rafts will be provided for competitors to race in. 

Safety team will be provided and on course in locations deemed to be of risk to competitors. If any competitors show lack of skill or show safety concern to Safety Director, they may be pulled from event at any time.

Closest town - Murchison. River runs through this town. Slalom Rapids, 10-minute drive from here. Many accommodation options within the town, on edge of town and next to river at racing section. 

 

Closest International Airport Christchurch, New Zealand. (4 hour’s drive from Murchison)

 

Event cost’s for team. Entry fee will cover Racing costs, basic transport from Murchison Hub to river and return, end of event dinner and award ceremony.

 

Extra costs to teams, Accommodation (Event information will provide a variety of accommodation available at the different locations and prices.)  Event will provide a basic camp at river at minimal cost for teams looking for cheap, basic camping options. (Team will need to provide their own tents and sleeping bags) 

Evening entertainment will be provided on some evenings at different locations, with some shuttles provided if traveling out of town to other venues.
